The ever popular Lakeside restaurant did not disappoint once again with excellent food and ambience for the annual BISSA dinner.
The evening kicked off (eventually after Andy Gregory made the short journey from Birstall to Heckmondwike – via Hull!) with the BISSA Chairman Colin Bottomley welcoming everyone and thanking Ponderosa staff for the efforts. Thanks and plaudits were also given to the coaching staff, directors and players who were present, as well as the BISSA committee who continue to work hard at fundraising.
A special guest appearance by Battler, the Bulldogs mascot, delighted the assembled diners when he was presented with a trophy for being the longest serving mascot. The award being given by Colin Morris, the referee who sent Battler off during a game against Hull KR. A further presentation to Stuart & Sylvia Hull took place to thank them for their continued support in sponsoring the dinner for yet another year.
Before the (now ravenous) diners could eat, a heads & tails game took place, after which the delicious three course meal was interspersed with free prize draws.
Colin Morris proved to be as enigmatic a speaker as he was a referee and he introduced the speaker Andy Gregory whose reputation preceded him. He told of some of his playing days and accolades, acknowledging the support of his best friend…his mum.
The auction led by Mr Morris went well, and was latterly hi-jacked by Paul Handforth who managed to extract a fantastic amount for a one-off photograph book of the NR Cup Final. This piece of Batley’s history was the climax to what proved to be yet again an all round ‘good neet art’
