‘The BISSA Committee are delighted to officially announce the key signings of Shaun Ainscough and Cain Southernwood for the 2015 season.
Live-wire Winger or Full Back Ainscough 24, known for his electric pace and try scoring flair has signed with the Bulldogs after being a stand out performer with previous club Whitehaven during the 2014 Championship season. The former Wigan and Bradford Super League starlet also recognised for his enigmatic style and kick-chase game will bring excitement and attacking pedigree to John Kear’s squad, and will follow in the footsteps of a number of recent high quality players to feature in the Dog’s back-line.
Former Super League Half Back Southernwood, signed on a two year deal is seen as a major coup for the Dogs after being arguably Whitehaven’s outstanding player in 2014. Diminutive, quick footed, and with a fine passing and kicking game, Cain will form a potentially devastating partnership with Scott Leatherbarrow next season. Despite having played well over 60 professional games, Cain is still only 22 years of age and has the potential to become one of the best halves in the competition. The former Bradford Bull and Wakefield Wildcats also brings an excellent goal kicking record, which could be crucial in what promises to be a highly competitive division next.
Signing two outstanding young players at the this level is a sign of the positive attitude the club are determined to take into next season. A season where we hope to further progress and make our mark on what could be a terrifically exciting season.
Both the club and BISSA committee would like to thank everyone who has helped to contribute towards these two notable signings, particularly the continually loyal and generous BISSA members who make us what we are.
The BISSA committee would also like to thank the club for allowing us to formerly unveil Shaun and Cain as Bulldogs players for 2015, and look forward to working closely together over the coming weeks and months to further enhance next year’s playing squad’
